What we do
Primary Care Chaplaincy Scotland (PCCS) was launched in 2020 and grew out of 10 years' experience of delivering chaplaincy within General Practice in Scotland.
We see chaplaincy as a safe place for patients where they can share their story and receive the care they need.
Like the covered bridge, chaplaincy provides shelter while patients are helped to journey from a place of dis-ease to a place of peace and wellbeing.

Our aims are:
- Help patients cope with their illness.
- Help patients address their deepest inner needs.
- Facilitate the search for meaning in the midst of suffering.
- Provide spiritual direction.
- Through face to face appointments, home visits and remote consultations.
- Appointments are free, last up to one hour and are patient centred.
- Referrals are by clinicians or self-referrals.
- It is seen as type of "talking therapy" with rapid access.
- PCCS offers listening, guidance, welcome, acceptance, signposting and long term continuity.
- PCCS is a spiritual care service open to patients of no faith or any faith.
- PCCS is committed to working in line with NHS policies (see policies section) regarding spiritual care of patients.
- PCCS regularly evaluates the service and publishes outcomes.
- PCCS has up to date safeguarding and recruitment policies.
- PCCS has developed a national training programme for chaplains in General Practice, in association with the ACGP, which new chaplains are required to complete.
- PCCS has a programme of staff appraisal and supervision.
